Ole Miss alum Shakira Austin drafted by Washington Mystics

Gillom Trophy winner two years running, Ole Miss center Shakira Austin hearing her name called early as the third overall pick by the Washington Mystics which ties her for the highest drafted player in program history, immediately validating her decision to transfer from Maryland two years ago.

As a senior, Austin dominated the lane as well as anyone in the country, averaging 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocks per game en route to the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 15 years.
