Old school gasser drag racing at Gulfport Dragway

Down at the Gulfport Dragway huge crowds showed out for classic gasser racing!

The Southeast Gassers Association burned rubber on the drag way. The group hosted a meet and greet with racers Friday with official races starting in the afternoon and continuing into the evening hours as a champion was crowned. Track Operator Gaylon Rolison said, “They replicate racing from the 1960s. All these cars have to fit how they race in the 1960s and we have some of the coolest cars out here. Man, 10,000 RPMs, gear jamming all over the track. It’s cool.”

Drag Racer Leslie Horne said, “The fact of the racing is the show. It’s the fans. It’s the family atmosphere here. I mean, that’s only stuff we can take with us, is those memories and fun. So, that’s what we’re here trying to do. We’re trying to recreate 1967 as much as we can. We’re trying to resonate with the audience and the crowd out here. We try to just put on a good show.”

Gulfport Dragway officials say nearly 10,000 were in attendance for racing on the strip throughout the week.
