OLA students sickened at church service at Our Lady of the Gulf

Emergency responders were called to Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis on Friday morning after students passed out during a church service.

Our Lady Academy students apparently passed out during a Mercy Day service at the church.

OLA sent a parent alert at 10:33 a.m. that officials were performing air quality testing and the student body would wait in the community center until given the all-clear.

Bay St. Louis mayor Mike Favre said the air quality testing showed no gas or other contaminants.

He said it could have been students being overcome by the heat and the use of incense during the service.
