OLA, Gulfport players honored with Miss Volleyball awards

Players from two Coast schools have been named winners of the inaugural C Spire Miss Volleyball award.

The Mississippi High School Activities Association and Mississippi Association of Coaches announced the winners Tuesday afternoon.

The 2024 C Spire Miss Volleyball award winners are:

  • Mylee Switcher, Pine Grove, 1A
  • Macie Phifer, Ingomar, 2A
  • Myah Favre, Our Lady Academy, 3A
  • Adilyn Vaughn, Newton County, 4A
  • Mabry Eason, Lafayette, 5A
  • Sofia Gonzalez, Lake Cormorant, 6A
  • Izzi Barnes, Gulfport High, 7A

Favre’s coach, Emily Corley, said her player is deserving of the award.

“She has a love for the game that can only be understood by watching her play,” Corley said. “She is a force on the court with amazing energy. What makes her even more special is what a wonderful young lady she is on and off of the court. Myah draws people to her and has a presence about her! It has been an honor to coach her the past four years.”

Gulfport coach Resi Fitzgerald said the entire program is thrilled for Barnes.

“This recognition is a testament to her incredible talent, perseverance, and commitment to the game,” Fitzgerald said. “She consistently raises the level of play for everyone around her and embodies the true spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship. It’s been an honor to coach her, and I have no doubt she will continue to do amazing things in her volleyball career.”

The 2024 C Spire Miss Volleyball winners will be recognized during the MHSAA State Championships, hosted in Clinton at Mississippi College on October 17-18. The winner for each classification will be recognized pregame before each championship game. The full schedule of championship matches follows.
