Ohr-O’Keefe Museum throws party for Ohr’s birthday

Saturday marked the recognition of George Ohr’s 165th birthday. So, to celebrate the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art held a birthday party.

To celebrate the Mad Potter’s big day, the museum threw a free celebration of art and creativity.

At the event, there were things to do for the whole family including live paintings, art vendors, ceramic molding activities, and free access to the whole museum.

A large pottery sale was also held in the welcome center for people to pick out their very own Ohr-like work of art. Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art Director and Marketing and PR Molly Shae said, “He was sort of like a showman and kind of a crazy guy and wasn’t really appreciated during his time frame, so we want to make sure that our artists are being appreciated here and now and celebrating his essence and journey.”

Ohr was born on July 12th, 1857 in Biloxi and has been a staple in the Mississippi art world for decades.
