Officials discuss Hanshaw Road Bridge repairs in Ocean Springs

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)- Jackson County officials discuss what exactly needs to happen moving forward for the Hanshaw Road Bridge to be put back in service.

The bridge was abruptly closed a few weeks ago due to the poor condition of the bridge’s support pilings.

Since then, the closure has caused residents in the area to take some lengthy detours.

Jackson County Supervisor Randy Bosarge, who represents the Hanshaw Road area, says the county has worked with the city on getting temporary repairs while work begins on planning permanent repairs to the bridge. “The Hanshaw Bridge was closed by the state Highway Department several weeks ago due to the fact the pilings being in worse shape than the last time it was inspected. The city asked us for assistance because of trying to get it back open as soon as possible. Our board voted to assist the city in the repairs. I say 12 weeks, but if they do it any sooner, I’ll be excited. I always prepare for the longest amount of time and if you get it done sooner, I’m good with that.”

Bosarge says after the county makes the repairs, it is up to the City of Ocean Springs to find funding for permanent repairs.

Aside from repairs to the pilings, it also needs up-to-date decking.
