Officer involved shooting in Harrison County

A Harrison County Sheriff’s Department deputy has been shot and injured, but his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
It happened after 11 am today about a quarter mile south of the intersection at Highway 605 and Highway 67 in North Harrison County.
According to initial reports, the officer was in a Sheriff’s patrol car in that area when he was shot by a person described as a white male weighing between 250-300 pounds and standing between 6’3″ and 6’5″ tall. He is wearing dark jeans and grey garden gloves. He is also described as having a 70s style mustache. He is driving a white truck that appeared to be a 1990s model vehicle with box-like headlights.
Multiple agencies are assisting in the search for the shooter.
The injured deputy was conscious and alert at the scene when first responders arrived, and later taken by helicopter to USA Medical Center in Mobile for treatment.
Authorities say the bullet proof vest the deputy was wearing likely saved his life and prevented serious damage.
No word on what the motive was behind the shooting, but it appears the shooter was not pulled over in a traffic stop.
