An Ocean Springs woman is charged with felony child abuse after allegedly participating in a ‘suicide pact’ with her 10-year-old daughter.

37-year-old Brittney Hensley was arrested in Huntsville, Alabama on October 15 and extradited back to Ocean Springs. She was taken to Jackson County jail and bond was set at $500,000.

Ocean Springs Police say that on July 6 about 6:25 p.m., officers arrived at the Studio 6 Motel on Bienville Boulevard in response to a report of a child overdosing.

Officers found the child unresponsive and found several unknown capsules and empty prescription bottles in a backpack near the girl. The prescriptions were for Hensley.

Hensley and her daughter were taken separately to Ocean Springs Hospital. The daughter was then taken to USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Investigators learned that Hensley and her daughter agreed to both take medication as part of a ‘suicide pact.’ Hensley left the Coast during the investigation and a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was taken into custody by Huntsville Police and extradited back to Ocean Springs.

The daughter was taken into custody by Mississippi Child Protective Services, where she remains.
