Ocean Springs Weekend of Discovery Begins

It’s that time of year again, a celebration of Ocean Springs and a historical look at how it came to be.
For the first time, the annual Weekend of Discovery festivities started at the Ocean Springs Community Center. It started with a landing party with food, drinks, music and tomorrow’s stars in full costume. A cast made up of residents from all over the Coast will do a reenactment of the Landing of the French in the mouth of Mississippi.
The event is one of many celebrating Ocean Springs’ history this weekend. Those portraying the French and the Native Americans were introduced tonight. David Reynolds is portraying Sieur d’Iberville. “Obviously, very important historical event for the city and the state, but it’s just a good time. It’s a lot of fun.”
Ocean Springs resident Robin Cooley said, “This is just a fun event every year. It just reminds us of the founding of Ocean Springs, the roots that we come from and why we all love living here.”
Tonight was just the beginning, several events kick off tomorrow morning, including a 5K, a children’s pet parade, a two day regatta and the landing reenactment. All the information can be found on the City of Ocean Springs’ website.
