Ocean Springs Volleyball aims to defend Class 7A State Championship

Four South Mississippi volleyball teams are heading to Clinton to compete for state championships, and the Ocean Springs Lady Greyhounds are looking to add another trophy to their collection.

Ocean Springs enters the Class 7A state championship fresh off a thrilling five-set victory over Brandon in Monday night’s South State championship. The win secured the Lady Greyhounds’ third consecutive South State title and another trip to the state championship stage.

The Greyhounds are no strangers to competing for the gold ball at A.E. Woods Coliseum. Last season, Ocean Springs captured the program’s first Class 7A state championship, giving the team confidence as it prepares for another title opportunity.

The five-set battle against Brandon also gave Ocean Springs a chance to face adversity and prove its ability to respond under pressure. With another tough matchup ahead, the Lady Greyhounds know they’ll need to bring that same determination to the court.

Head coach Christina Daigle and team captains Alden St. Amant and Layla Daley discussed the team’s strengths and what has helped Ocean Springs reach this point in the season.

Ocean Springs will face the Lewisburg Patriots in the Class 7A state championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

Best of luck to the Ocean Springs Lady Greyhounds as they compete for the gold ball!
