Ocean Springs Visitors Center set to kick off Mardi Gras with its Annual King Cake Contest

(Ocean Springs, MS) – The Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce-Main Street Tourism Bureau is working with the community to showcases what its local businesses have to offer by hosting its annual king cake voting contest at the Ocean Springs Visitors Center now throughout Mardi Gras season.
“The idea behind the contest is to help our tourists better understand and become more exposed to Mardi Gras on the Mississippi Gulf Coast,” says Cynthia Sutton, CEO of the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce-Main Street-Tourism Bureau. “King cakes have a rich history on the Gulf Coast, and this is a fun way to share the culture and promote our local bakeries and restaurants.”
Each week beginning February 3, the Ocean Springs Visitors Center will serve a variety of king-cake treats to those who pass through town. Visitors and locals will have the opportunity to sample the king cakes or king cake treats and vote for their favorite. A certificate will be awarded to the business voted with the best king cake in town at the end of the season.
The contest will run through February 28. Those interested in voting can stop by the Ocean Springs Visitors Center/Ocean Springs Chamber -Main Street during business hours Monday – Saturday to taste and vote.
