Ocean Springs residents wary of new RV park in Gulf Park Estates

A developer has proposed an RV park in Ocean Springs, located at the abandoned Pine Island Golf Course.

This plot of land is one of the city’s biggest residential neighborhoods, Gulf Park Estates.

Some residents of Gulf Park Estates are not happy about this upcoming RV park, so unhappy that they are challenging the board.

Hundreds are vetoing the RV park that would bring 476 RV sites, 16 tree houses, 20 permanent trailers, and much more.

Residents have raised concerns about increased traffic, evacuation routes, and other safety measures.

Nearly 5,000 students live in Gulf Park Estates, making the area highly trafficked in the mornings and afternoons, which is also the check in and check out times for the RVs.

Freddie Pervine lives right across from the golf course. He says that development needs to happen outside of the neighborhood. “This is just not a destination. This is not a resort. Ocean Springs may be a resort, but this is Gulf Park Estate. This is not a little resort community. It can’t handle it.”

Other reasons residents are wary of this RV park is the depreciation of property value and the road widening project that’s been proposed for Beachview Drive, which would divert traffic even more.

Residents are petitioning by the firehouse on Beachview Drive.

We’ll be able to hear from the Jackson County Planning Commission at their meeting October 18th.
