Ocean Springs residents speak out on potential waterfront condos

In between the CSX railroad tracks and the north side of US-90 in Ocean Springs, water front condos could soon be on the horizon.

Developer Mid South Companies is willing to invest $60 million to see the 6 story, 66 unit Bay Club Condos become a reality, something which Clive Mutschler, an Ocean Springs resident, is less than enthusiastic about.

“It’s more urban blight is what it’s becoming. The town is losing its charm, it’s going to be gone in a few short years. The building is out of hand.”

Charlene Orso of Ocean Springs spoke on her concerns for how the condos could impact an area known for its peacefulness.

“Traffic will be horrible. It will take away our views, we like to come here and be quiet and enjoy life.”

In order to move forward with the building, developers need approval from the city’s Planning Commission, with a final say from the Ocean Springs Board of Alderman.

The approval was on the Planning Commission’s agenda Tuesday evening, but was taken off last second by the developers. This didn’t stop residents such as Dixie McClain, a local who lives in a neighborhood right next to the proposed building site, from voicing her concerns on how this could affect her home’s price.

“I have ten acres and they want to put 66 units in three acres on the other side of the railroad tracks from me. That’s not going to change anything? That’s not going to affect the prices of homes along the water?”

WXXV will keep you updated when the building site’s approval is back on the planning commission’s agenda.
