Ocean Springs Police investigating shooting downtown

Ocean Springs Police are investigating a shooting that happened Sunday night about 9:30 p.m.

Officers who responded found a male victim in a parking lot on DeSoto Avenue with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Capt. Ryan LeMaire said the victim is stable. He also said the victim was not cooperating with police in the investigation.

“Some initial evidence shows he may have accidentally shot himself,” LeMaire said.

Investigators are hoping to gather video from nearby businesses that will show what did happen.

A spokesman for the Scratch Kitchen said the shooting was not on their property. Caution tape was used in their parking lot because there were people not paying cover and the owners were trying to stop that practice.

If you have any information about the shooting, please contact Ocean Springs Police at 228-875-2211.
