Ocean Springs Municipal Library celebrates grand reopening

A little rain did not stop the outpouring of supporters showing up for the grand reopening of the Ocean Springs Municipal Library.

Jackson George Regional Library System Director Angie Stewart said, “We are so excited to have finally completed and opened to the public, the new renovated Ocean Springs Municipal Library.”

It is the re-grand opening that the community of Ocean Springs has been waiting for. Ocean Springs Library Branch Manager Yvonne Parton said, “Ocean Springs has always been big users of libraries in my opinion. They really showed it during the time that we were closed. Constant questions, visiting us at the Mary C., but the moment we opened our doors they came back and they keep coming back and we’re just excited that they can join us today as well.”

Former Alderman Tom Reynolds said, “I was on the original library alderman city council when we built this library.”

With contributions from Jackson County Board of Supervisors, the City of Ocean Springs, and Friends of the Ocean Springs Library, the renovations were made possible. “We have a new circulation desk, we have new walls, new carpets. It’s just beautiful and a wonderful air conditioning system.”

Reynolds was on the board of alderman in 1972 when the library was first built. He says he is already counting down the days until the next ceremony. “I’m glad to be here. I’m the only one left of the alderman, that was to be here. I figured I’m good for ten more years so I wanna be here for the re-dedication.”
