Ocean Springs Mayor’s Youth Council paints recycling bins

The City of Ocean Springs Mayor’s Youth Council wanted to leave a lasting impact on the city for their final project of the year.

So, the council worked together to paint five recycling bins to spread throughout the city. The council raised funds to purchase the industrial sized bins and each bin is light blue and painted with a different animal that the members of the council thought represented Ocean Springs. Ocean Springs Mayor’s Youth Council Member Caroline Wiygul said, “Ocean Springs is like a really affluent and a relatively privileged area. We have a responsibility to start being better about responsible waste management and this is a way to do that. Youth can say hey this is important, this is what we want to happen. Then the city officials can expand it if they want to.”

The bins are located throughout the city and one is standing outside city hall.
