Ocean Springs King Cake Contest goes virtual
Ocean Springs annual King Cake Contest has returned. However, due to the pandemic, the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce is holding the event virtually this year.
Locals and visitors will be encouraged to purchase a king cake treat from one of the participating locations, taste them, and then go online and vote for their favorite.
The king cake treats range from traditional king cakes to cheesecakes, daiquiris, and macarons.
The voting will be hosted on the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce Facebook page by clicking on the event page titled ‘King Cake Contest Ocean Springs.’ Cynthia Dobbs with the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce said, “Something that is going to be similar to each of the King Cake treats is actually as simple as just the color. There will be one of the Mardi Gras colors. The purple, the green, or the yellow-gold. But the insides of each of them are different. Some will have cream in them. Some will have sprinkles on top. It’s just a cool way– one’s a cheesecake. So, they all have different kind of options to taste what our Mardi Gras tradition kind of started.”
Tasters can vote once a day until Fat Tuesday on February 16th. A certificate will be awarded to the business with the most votes, declaring them the best king cake treat in town.
