Ocean Springs hosts Breakfast with the Mayor

Ocean Springs Mayor Kenny Holloway spent the morning at the Lady May talking about upcoming projects in the City of Discovery during his quarterly breakfast event.

Holloway touched on many topics including urban renewal, annexation, and some new capital improvement projects.

For instance, Gay Lemon Park is in the middle of receiving updates to its concessions building, restrooms, and also field dugouts, fencing, and lighting.

In terms of annexation, city leaders want Ocean Springs High School inside the city limits and would also like to annex land up Highway 57 north of I10. Mayor Holloway said, “We have a real strong case for annexation. Like I said the city has not grown geographically in many, many years and it’s just time to do it. We got to take advantage of some growth opportunities and I think, well, I know that when its all said and done, the tax increase or the tax burden to the newly annexed area is not going to be great at all. Our fire rating is a four and, in that area, it’s either a seven or a ten so that’s going to lower premiums.”

The mayor also touched on the Front Beach plans that will include building a pavilion, boat slips, for short term rentals, and food truck space.
