Ocean Springs Holds ‘Chicks Picks’ Event for Cruisin’

Biloxi wasn’t the only the only city to have a sock hop for Cruisin’ the Coast. Friday night, Ocean Springs had its own party with poodle skirts, Elvis Presley, and of course, classic cars.

It wouldn’t be a sock hop without the King. Cynthia Sutton of the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerece says, “We bring in Elvis, we bring in Marilyn Monroe, and this year, we also had Thelma and Louise.”

Then there were the ladies in their poodle skirts. This year, a group of local ladies got to pick their favorite cars for the Chicks Picks contest. Sutton also says, “Ten ladies, ten cars.”

News 25’s Sarah Duffey was one of the lucky ladies. She picked a beautiful old Cutlass. Duffey says, “I just think that it’s a sexy car. If you look at it, it’s black and white, which is so classic, and then you have the lean back seats, and you know, it just makes you feel good to look at it.”

The car owners were given cash prizes for having their cars picked by the chicks and after the contest, locals danced the night away to some classic tunes.
