Ocean Springs Garden Club celebrates 60 years

We are joined in studio by Lynda Brokl of the Ocean Springs Garden Club. She is in studio to tell us about a big milestone the club is celebrating in October.

The Ocean Springs Garden Club will celebrate its 60th Anniversary on October 13, 2024, at the Ocean Springs Community Center, 512 Washington Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS.

The Open House will be from 2:00 to 4:00 with a short program at 3:00.  Light refreshments will be served.

The Open House will highlight some of the many different projects the Garden Club has done over the years including beautification projects for the city such as planting flowers around the city and cleaning and maintaining flower beds.

The club maintains a permanent flower bed at the Mary C. O’Keefe.

For Arbor Day, they plant a tree each year honoring some of their past members or persons who have done great work for our city.

The club has had Tablescapes and Flower Shows to highlight their talented members.  At these events, they raised money for cancer patients in OS, money to place a Blue Star Marker at the Civic Center, and a Gold Star Marker at the Mary C. O’Keefe.

In addition to garden related projects, the club has worked on other projects such as Plant It Pink to bring awareness to breast cancer, and educational events for the community like the Monarch Butterfly Program to show the importance of adding plants to support the survival of Monarch butterflies.
