Ocean Springs Fishing Pier is open

Ocean Springs Fishing Pier just north of Highway 90 is now open.

After months of rebuilding from Hurricane Zeta in 2020, the pier officially opened Monday.

The hurricane caused structural and electrical damage. Jackson County teamed up with FEMA to redo the 1,300 linear foot pier that cost over $600,000.

The pier has new decking to make it easier for people with disabilities to get around and the pier has become much more storm resilient with glass reinforced plastic on the floor deck. Jackson County Recreation Director Darcie Crew said, “My primary goal is to provide spaces for people to recreate in the way they wish to recreate and create family memories and experiences with their friends and family members.”

The pier also features new handrails, new electrical lights along the pier, new fish cleaning stations, and water pumps.
