Ocean Springs Falls to Hernando in Game 1 of 7A State Championship Series
Ocean Springs struck first after capitalizing on a Hernando error. With Emma Franklin at the plate, a miscue at third base allowed Taylor Farra to sprint home and give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead.
Hernando quickly responded in the second inning with a home run to even the score at 1-1. Strong defensive play from both teams kept the game tied through the third inning.
In the fourth, Gracie Shepherd sparked Ocean Springs with a clutch hit to the outfield, reaching second base and shifting momentum. Moments later, another Hernando error allowed Mallory Talley to score, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
However, the Lady Tigers pulled away late, plating six combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings to build a commanding 10-2 lead heading into the final frame.
Ocean Springs showed fight in the seventh, as Dakota Raynore and Kerrigan Scott each crossed the plate following a key hit from Farra, but the rally fell short.
The Lady Greyhounds will look to bounce back and even the series in Game 2, scheduled for Friday at 2:30 p.m.
