Ocean Springs businesses angry after downtown shooting

Friday night there was a mass shooting at the Scratch Kitchen in Downtown Ocean Springs that left one dead and six injured.

This is the second shooting to happen in Downtown Ocean Springs this month and it’s clear the toll this violence is beginning to take on residents.

Many downtown businesses have since expressed their displeasure as they search for a way to create a safer downtown.

News 25 spoke with Alderman Rickey Authement on their solution. The board is working on plans to meet with local businesses to hear their input. “The goal behind that is to make everybody feel – to continue to feel safe. For the City of Ocean Springs, we’ve worked very hard to get the city where it is today, and everybody: families, single people, I mean they’ve always enjoyed Ocean Springs and we’re going to continue to be able to offer a safe place for people to come.”

The city is unable to provide additional details into the investigation at this time.
