Ocean Springs Breakfast with the Mayor
Ocean Springs kicked off the day with a hot meal and hot topics at the quarterly Breakfast with the Mayor event.
Mayor Connie Moran discussed the board of aldermen’s decision to let the Lovers Lane leaning tree stay put for the time being. They are now looking at alternatives such as trimming the tree to lift weight, installing lighting, putting up reflectors and signage or flashing signals when fire trucks approach.
Mayor Moran uses these informal breakfasts to have one-on-one conversations with the public and get their input on community projects. “It gives an opportunity for any business or resident to come sit down, just hear a quick overview of what’s going on in town. We have the aldermen here as well to answer questions and just in general be a face for them that they can see rather than in the formal board meeting atmosphere.”
Other key topics included the status of the Harbor Road projects, Amtrak coming to the Coast, Mayor Moran’s support of Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich’s push for high speed fiber optics and the possibility of a new Walmart making its way to Ocean Springs sometime this year.
