Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen sets public hearing date for Urban Renewal Plan

The Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen set a public hearing date for the city’s new Urban Renewal Plan last night.

The new date for the hearing is February 22nd at 5:30 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Civic Center.

This plan will allow for the development of several large parcels near downtown. The Urban Renewal map has drawn controversy from citizens who claim the site contains high levels of toxic chemicals.

Last Saturday, a community meeting was held by concerned citizens and attended by many elected officials to discuss alternative visions for the site’s future.

Many presentations occurred discussing controversies and alleged pollution and environmental concerns and discussing the ability to turn the area into a green space.
