Ocean Springs alum McCarty English prepares to take the mound again for the Golden Eagles
A minor set back calls for a major comeback, and McCarty English is determined to come back better and stronger!
English, a right-handed pitcher at Southern Miss and Ocean Springs alum, saw the mound often as just a true freshman throwing 18.1 innings and striking out 18.
Everything was going the Golden Eagles way until he noticed pain when throwing midway through the season. In April of 2024, English required Tommy John surgery.
After intense rehab throughout the summer and fall, the righty is now cleared to throw and is confident in his return for the 2025!
During Southern Miss’s media day on Friday, Head Coach Christian Ostrander said McCarty in currently competing for a starting position for the black and gold.

Southern Miss will begin the 2025 season by hosting Lafayette for a weekend series February 14th-16th.
