Nursing Simulation Center to open at MGCCC
Mississippi is in the midst of a nursing shortage, but a new state of the art building at MGCCC looks to replenish numbers on the coast.
"We’re short of nursing throughout the state of Mississippi, particularly in South Mississippi, so it’s going to provide jobs but also health care professionals. We’ve got to get more health care professionals into our hospitals, into our rural areas and these are nurses that will stay here in Mississippi and contribute”, said Governor Phil Bryant.
Governor Bryant along with state and local officials broke ground on a new nursing and simulation center with 2 million dollars’ worth of equipment, including human like simulation mannequins.
"This is going to be a state of the art facility. It’s here on the Mississippi gulf coast. It’s will be convenient to everyone because it’s on hwy 67”, said Connie Rocko.
The 12 million dollar facility will be on two acres of property at Tradition that was donated to MGCCC for the project.
Once completed the center will double the number of nurses who will graduate from MGCCC’s associate degree program.
Nursing students from the Perkinston, Jackson County and JD campuses will all move to the location and it will provide an easy transition to both School of Nursing programs at USM and William Carey University.
The center is set to open in the fall of 2016.
