North Woolmarket Students Put a New Spin on Classic Cars and Hot Rods

The grounds of North Woolmarket Middle School looked like the scene of a time travel movie Friday morning as elementary and  middle school students put their spin on some classic cars and hot rods for the schools’ annual Cruisin’ Car Show and Celebration.

Some students danced like there was no tomorrow, while others leisurely strolled back in time at the event. A sea of poodle skirts, horn-rimmed glasses and bobby socks, this real life Cruisin’ history lesson wasn’t the first time around the block for some students, like fifth grader Abigail Martino, who was decked to the nines as a Pink Lady. “Today we’re having Cruisin’ the Coast Day where you can dress up as your favorite person from the old times, and we’re voting for cars,” Martino said.

A cherry red 1969 Chevy Corvette caught fifth grader Charlaina Anderson’s eye. ” The old cars, they were better. My grandmother used to ride in old Chevrolets and everything. The new cars, I like them, but the old cars are just better,” Anderson said.

Students voted on their two favorite vehicles, and as the teachers peeled the students away from the show for the final tally, they walked away with another lesson – that time truly does fly.  Randy Williams’s 1984 Jeep CJ7 took the top award at the event.
