North Bay Parade Fills Streets
Residents say the Annual North Bay Parade is one of the biggest and best Mardi Gras Parades on the Coast. Drawing around 40,000 people to the streets of D’Iberville, the 29th North Bay Mardi Gras Association parade was a great success. The weather was a beautiful 65 degrees with sunshine as the parade rolled through Lemoyne Boulevard. This year, the parades’ theme was “voodoo secrets.”
Decorated floats blasted funky tunes and Parade Krewes threw beads, souvenirs and candy to the crowd.
Gulfport Resident Tim Hite said, “This is our third time coming to the parade, it’s probably the best parade in the area, there’s so many floats, there’s so many beads and other treasures, trinkets, stuffed animals, things like that. The kids really get into it, I think that’s one of the most exciting things to see all the kids go out there, ‘hey can you throw me this, throw me that.’ It’s pretty exciting.”
Jack Smith was at the parade with his family from Petal. He said, “My favorite part of Mardi Gras is catching a lot of beads and seeing a lot of floats.”
There were a few arrests made during the parade. According to authorities, most were for underage drinking but overall, police tell News 25 the parade ended successfully.
