North Bay Elementary students thank first responders
The North Bay Elementary School Kindness Club hosted a party for first responders in remembrance of 9/11.
EMTs, police, and the fire department were invited to North Bay where they were served cake, candy, and given thank you cards from the children.
The kids were able to meet Bay St. Louis Police Department’s new therapy dog, see different first responder vehicles, and interview first responders about their job.
It was a huge bonding moment for everyone involved, but it also serves the purpose of thanking first responders for the sacrifices they are willing to make. North Bay Elementary Principal Crystal Anderson said, “As a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade school, sometimes it’s hard to talk about the events of 9/11. These students weren’t alive at that time, and it’s really hard to conceptualize for them, what actually occurred that day. And so, rather than focus on the tragedy that happened, we decided to flip it around and use it as an event for kindness. To show appreciation to our local first responders, like Officer Fullerton here.”
Community Engagement Officer Roy Fullerton said, “It’s been wonderful. Always. Interacting with the kids is wonderful.”
According to Principal Anderson, the police often stop by for a game of volleyball with the kids as well.
