North Bay Elementary: a Bully Free Zone

To have a friend, be a friend? That’s the new motto at North Bay Elementary School in Biloxi.
It even says so on the school’s new buddy bench that was donated by Shaggy’s this morning in honor of Anti-Bullying Week.
The lesson plan in Miss Mason’s fifth grade class was all about choosing to be a buddy over a bully. Kids wrote kind adjectives describing each other on the backs of their anti-bully shirts.
Fifth graders told News 25 why school should be bully free. Fifth grader Jaxson Boudreaux said, “I think being a buddy is important because being a buddy to someone is a really good feeling and it carries through the whole day.”
Fifth grader Zoe Burris said, “Instead of just standing there and just watching, either I would go to the bully and say ‘you’re also taking this out on you and not just that person.’”
North Bay Elementary students say they plan on keeping their school a bully-free zone.
