North Bay Civitans to assist college students on hunger needs as part of fifteenth ‘Gobble Wobble’

D’IBERVILLE-ST. MARTIN, Miss. — A local service organization is keeping college students and their families in-mind during this year’s Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 17-23, 2024).

On Saturday, November 23, the North Bay Civitan Club of D’Iberville & St. Martin will host its 15th Annual Gobble Wobble Food Drive & Bridge Run presented by Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort and Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers.

For a second year, all nonperishable food items received during the Gobble Wobble will benefit local university students and their families in need this holiday season.

“Each year, members select an agency with a food pantry to receive the nonperishables our community donates at the Gobble Wobble,” explained North Bay Civitan Club President Keith Wilson.

College students, says Wilson, also have hunger needs that often go unmet during the holidays, which is part of the reason why USM was selected to receive the food for a second year.

“Inflation has been a problem for consumers shopping to cook during the holidays, so each food item makes a difference to someone.”

Registration goes from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 at the foot of Biloxi Bay Bridge in Ocean Springs. Just bring a donation of non-perishable food items or cash donation. The first 100 registered donors will receive a commemorative Gobble Wobble ribbon.

Runners, walkers, and rollers are also encouraged to wear Thanksgiving-themed costumes to join in on the fun. Opening ceremonies begin at 4:15, and donations will be accepted until 5 p.m.
