North Bay Civitan Club of D’Iberville-St. Martin collects teddy bears for kids in need
One local community service-based organization celebrated National Teddy Bear Day by having a teddy bear drive.
The North Bay Civitan Club of D’Iberville-St. Martin hosted its 14th annual Bears on Patrol Drive. The nonprofit organization had the help of local high school students from D’Iberville High’s Key Club and St. Martin’s Beta Club.
The community showed its support by donating over 150 teddy bears which will be donated to the Harrison County Fire Department.
Civitan Club President Keith Wilson says the point of the drive is so young kids going through a tragedy can find comfort in the furry bear. “Today is National Teddy Bear Day, September 9th, you know, getting a teddy bear has always been a comfort. Many people find them to give some sort of hope and that’s what we’re trying to do here is that when someone is in an emergency, these first responders can take those teddy bears and give that to that person at a time of need.”
The club also held a remembrance ceremony for first responders and civilians who lost their lives on 9/11.
