North Bay Civitan Club of D’Iberville and St. Martin holding ‘Beads for Special Needs’ drive

The North Bay Civitan Club of D’Iberville and St. Martin began their ‘Beads for Special Needs’ drive yesterday.

The club could use your leftover beads for their ‘Beads for Special Needs’ drive happening this week.

The club will be collecting Mardi Gras beads from now until March 5th to give to special needs students at St. Martin High School who are part of a business managing program. The students will take the beads and resell them.

The goal is to teach the students some important skills in business as well as make some money doing it.

Drop boxes for bead donations will be located at Tatonut Donut Shop in Ocean Springs as well as the Latimer Community Center at 10908 Tucker Road in Ocean Springs. North Bay Civitan Club President Keith Wilson said, “So one of the four focus areas that we have in Civitan currently is working with people who have developmental disabilities on finding employment. So, this kind of ties into that by allowing these students take the beads, sort them, clean them, repackage and resell. So, it’s going to be doing something that helps them learn how to manage a business.”

On March 5th, the club will be collecting the last bit of beads from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Latimer Community Center during the center’s community market event.
