Non-profit organization helping Mississippians with criminal records

A non-profit organization is helping Mississippians with criminal records get back into school and the work force.

The Mississippi Center for Justice is partnering with the NAACP of Gulfport and the Magnolia Bar Association to host a restoration day in Harrison County.

It’s a free expungement clinic helping those with felony and misdemeanor offenses get their charges wiped off their records.

Guests attending will meet with a lawyer free of charge, the lawyer will be guiding them through the expungement process.

“We feel once people have done their time and served their sentence, you know Mississippi law entitles them to clear their record off with the agreement of the judge and the prosecutor,”  said Ian Gustafson, an equal justice works fellow attorney. “So we want to enable them to access that civil right”
