No Hate in our State Rally at Jones Park
Gulf Coast community members rallied through the rain today to oppose the recent signing of House Bill 1523.
“No hate in our state” signs took over Jones Park as dozens of protesters stood side by side, saying the act is discriminatory against the LBGT community. Even though the crowd was covered in rain coats and umbrellas, organizers of the rally tell News 25 the issue is too important for a little rain to get in the way. Organizer of the rally Lea Campbell said, “Our cause is greater than the rain. We’re going to do this rain or shine but we have looked at the radar and the weather should move out within the next hour. We’re going to continue the protest regardless. We all have LGBT friends, family, or neighbors and they are human beings just like the rest of us who deserve equal treatment.”
Protesters rallied along Highway 90 until about 4 this afternoon.
