COLUMBUS, Miss. – The president of Mississippi University for Women says the school will not require employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Nora Miller says the university does not have federal contracts and so is not at risk of losing federal money without a vaccine mandate.

The governing board for Mississippi’s eight public universities voted Monday to require COVID-19 vaccinations for employees at universities that have federal contracts.

The board acted in response to an executive order issued last month by President Joe Biden.

Mississippi universities have about 120 federal contracts totaling at least $271 million.
