No. 2 Washington defeats No. 3 Texas in 2024 All-State Sugar Bowl
Monday didn’t just bring in a new year, it brought college football fans throughout the country a Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl champion. Setting the state for the College Football National Championship game.
At Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans, the Washington Huskies punched their t
icket to compete for a national championship after defeating the Texas longhorns 37-31.
“The job is not finished,” said quarterback Michael Penix Jr. “I feel like it is definitely going to take more. I am going to push myself to give this team more next week and we are just super excited about the opportunity.”
The 2024 All-State Sugar Bowl was a battle between two of the top offenses that college football has to offer. Many thought the game would come down to who could get a stop on defense. The Huskies got that stop and a lot more – but more importantly they could no be stopped on offense.
“I know every one on the sideline continued to believe in the defense,” said Penix Jr. “They have done it all year and you have seen it so many times each and every week throughout they season – they are coming up with big time stops in big time moments.”
It is no secret that the Huskies go as far as Heisman finalist Michael Penix Jr. can take them – or throw them.
“He set the tone pretty quickly and just made all of the throws and obviously there are other who have to make the plays but I think he had to go to all the tools he has that make him the best player in college football,” said Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer.
It’s safe to say that the Huskies, and Penix’s season, is not finished just yet.
“Obviously, it’s like, I have the best playmakers on the outside,” said Penix Jr. “They make it easy. You have the best players outside – it makes my job easy and I am just blessed to be in the position.”
No. 2 Washington will take on the No. 1 ranked Michigan Wolverines in the College Football National Championship game on January 8 at 6:30 PM.
