News 25 Game of the Week preview: D’Iberville vs. St. Martin

This year, the class 6A playoffs are starting a week early for both D’Iberville and St. Martin. It’s a win or go home scenario for the region 4 rivals with just one post-season berth left for the taking.

The Warriors and Yellowjackets will settle the deadlock head-to-head in the News 25 Game of the Week which runs heavy on the déjà vu especially for D’Iberville who was facing the same ‘must-win’ situation in last year’s regular season finale against St. Martin.

The Warriors took care of business, but the Yellowjackets still got in with a separate tie-breaker. This time around, there’s only room for one, no exceptions. St. Martin head coach Eddie Wayne Whitehead said, “You basically, you’d like to be in Gulfport’s shape and already have the region title clinched. But you still want a shot when it comes down to the end, so one game and you’re in is pretty much like the playoffs have started already. You lose and you’re out, so we’re just going in it to win and that’s it.”

D’Iberville head coach Eric Collins said, “We’re experienced at that since that was the same situation we were in last year, so our guys are prepared for it and it is. If you win you go on, if you lose you’re packing up, getting ready for next year. So we’ll see who wants to keep going.”

Kick-off between the Warriors and Jackets is set for 7 p.m. tomorrow from D’Iberville.
