News 25 Game of the Week features battle of unbeatens: D’Iberville vs. Ocean Springs
Warrior Stadium is home to not only the News 25 Game of the Week, but perhaps, the game of the week across the entire state.
D’Iberville and Ocean Springs in a region 4 class 6A showdown also a battle of the unbeatens.
The home team Warriors are 5-0 currently riding a 16-game regular season winning streak.
The visiting Greyhounds, also perfect with a mark of 4-0, have yet to score less than 43 points in a game.
Chances are the outcome of Friday’s mega match-up will go a long way in deciding playoff standings, if not the district champion. D’Iberville full back Gavin Vassalli said, “Everywhere I go I hear, are y’all going to be ready to play OS this week? And I think we are.”
Ocean Springs middle linebacker Jacob Williams said, “It’s back and forth. Everybody on the D’Iberville side thinks they’re going to win. Everybody on the Ocean Springs side thinks that we’re going to win, so it’s just a back-and-forth thing on social media. But really what it boils down to is how we play on the field.”
Ocean Springs Head Football Coach Blake Pennock said, “You’ve got to understand really where everything stands in the pecking order probably of our region. Obviously, if you get a win here against D’Iberville you get a two-game lead really on them as far as a tie-breaker is concerned, and you know they’re always going to be there near the top at the end of the season too as well, so it’s a big game for those reasons, and it’s a big game for us to continue the momentum that we’re playing with so far this season.”
D’Iberville Head Coach Larry Dolan said, “It’s an early marker for where we stand, and we know Ocean Springs has got a great football team and they were good last year and we got by them, so it’s an early ball game, but this game does not put you in the playoffs or keep you from getting in the playoffs, so biggest game I’ve been around down here in a long time in the regular season.”
D’Iberville and Ocean Springs will kick things off at 7 p.m. Friday.
