New Year’s Beach Cleanup in Harrison County

New Year’s celebrations have come and gone, but there are still some reminders left of the holiday.

The Harrison County Sand Beach Department spent the day cleaning up all the trash and firework debris left behind from New Year’s Eve.

Beach cleaners worked from Jones Park and went east and have already picked up all of the major trash left behind.

Officials say they were pleased because there wasn’t much trash left on the beach this year. Sand Beach Department Director Chuck Loftis said, “For New Year’s Eve, it’s not that much material left on the beach. Like I said, July 4th is far more than what we have on New Year’s Eve.”

The beach is the only place in Harrison County you are allowed to set off fireworks. You can only do this twice a year on the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve.
