New Ward Lines Possibly Coming to Biloxi
New ward lines could be coming to the City of Biloxi.
Currently, the City of Biloxi is districted into seven different zones. The new wards would be redrawn to incorporate annexations of 2013 and 2014.
The city is holding a public hearing Tuesday at 1:30 at City Hall to look at three possible maps with different zoning breakdowns. The new maps would add about 200 residents who live in the northern areas of Biloxi.
City leaders tell News 25 the most important part is there should be no more than a 10 percent variance in population from district to district.
Most residents won’t see a difference, but the biggest change could be when it comes to voting. Cecilia Dobbs Walton with the City of Biloxi said, “Most of them won’t be affected and most will go to the same poll. Now, if they do change we will notify the public by mail and online on our website of where their voting polls will be. It will go into effect for the election of May of 2017.”
After hearing from the public tomorrow, the City Council will vote in December.
