New security measures take effect at Coast Coliseum

Tonight’s the very first time guests will have to pass through metal detectors before entering the Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.
Signs now hang outside the coliseum entrance notifying the public that the metal detectors are in use. Coliseum staff tells News 25 there’s a total of twelve metal detectors and cell phones and car keys will have to be taken out before passing through.
The increase in security measures comes after the installation of over thirty additional security cameras and six new security wands. Director of Facility Operations Michelle Menningmann said, “In light of tragedies in the last couple of years, especially in this country and different facilities and concerts and events, we felt it was really important to show the public here in South Mississippi that it’s a safe place to come. We want you to have fun. We want you to have peace of mind whenever you attend events here.”
Security personnel will continue to check bags at the coliseum.
