Mayor Proposes Tree Advisory Committee

Biloxi citizens will now have more of a say in the city’s tree permitting process.
This afternoon, the City Council voted unanimously to create a tree committee advisory board. This came after some residents called for more citizens having a say in the removal of trees in the city. Mayor Gilich proposed changing the city’s tree ordinance to create the advisory committee. So far, the fate of the trees has been decided by the city arborist and the community development director.
Mayor Gilich said, “I think this latest one would reflect the value we have as a community. To see some of these beautiful scenes that we have because of oak trees, we want to preserve that yet there’s a balance to everything. We don’t to get silly on some things. The can do some things to relieve pressure. I think the tree committee and the ordinance will reflect and be reasonable in every approach.”
The new committee will have seven members.
