New path to nursing program at MGCCC

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will begin offering an associate degree nursing program option on evenings and weekends this summer.

The program was granted approval from the accreditation commission for education in nursing November of last year and from the Mississippi Institutions for Higher Learning in early February.

The new program will include the existing program options as well as adding an EMS paramedic to RN option and a respiratory therapists to RN option.

With the new evening and weekend availability for this program, Dr. Joan Hendrix says it will hopefully help with the current nurse shortage. “With the current nursing shortage, everyone is aware of the shortage not just here on the Gulf Coast, but also across the nation. We’re hoping to meet the needs of the Gulf Coast community partners that we have, our advisory board council members we’re enthusiastic about the opportunity.”
