New Orleans cancels all Mardi Gras parades for 2021 due to COVID-19
NEW ORLEANS (WXXV) — New Orleans will not roll any parades during Carnival season in 2021, the city announced on the mayor’s website on Tuesday.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s website offered an “Frequently Asked Questions” section that included the question, “Will there be parades in the city of New Orleans this year?”
The mayor’s FAQ answered that “Parades of any kind will not be permitted this year because large gatherings have proven to be super-spreader events of the COVID-19 virus.”
The website went on to say the city could not cancel Mardi Gras because it is a religious holiday and that some krewes would be holding modified balls that would be invitation only.
