New officers recruited to the Biloxi Police Department
The Biloxi Police Department is welcoming its newest officers to the force.
A group of eight new recruits gathered at the Biloxi Municipal Court on April 12 as they were sworn in with friends, family, and future colleagues looking on.
Following their oath, each new recruit was given their badge by Police Chief John Miller.
The Biloxi Police Department has seen a decrease in officers entering their department lately, which is why Chief Miller says it is incredibly important to continue to bring in as many new recruits as possible.
“This is extremely important because trying to recruit people had really become difficult as I think everybody knows, and it’s not just with the police force but we really felt the heat,” said Police Chief John Miller. “So bringing in eight people at one time…man that means the world to us.”
“I can’t say how overwhelmingly excited I am. This is extremely exciting,” said Ashia Cofey, a newly recruited officer. “All eight of us are ready to get out there and show the world what we got.”
Chief Miller says he is expecting to swear in another group of officers sometime in the next couple of months.
