New Moss Point police chief focuses on communication, hiring quality officers
MOSS POINT, Miss. — We sat down with newly sworn in Moss Point Police Chief Dennis Stevenson to learn more about his plans for the city.
Chief Stevenson says he has big plans for the Moss Point Police Department and is already working to rebuild.
Just a few months ago, multiple officers left the department following former chief Brandon Ashley’s resignation.
Mayor Billy Knight welcomed a comprehensive review of the police department by the Department of Public Safety. The report consisted of a recommendation for a 90-day stabilization plan which would focus on filling vacant positions and establishing better communication by department leaders and city hall.
Chief Stevenson says this is his top priority.
The retired Mississippi State Trooper was appointed to the interim position initially, but will now hold the position permanently.
He also told WXXV that he will focus on the youth in the community to help inform them and lead them on the right path.
