New lighting improvements at Stennis International Airport

The Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission recently awarded a $1.7 million contract for runway lighting aid and electrical improvements at Stennis International Airport.

The project includes the replacement of approximately 100 existing navigational aid lights from existing incandescent to new LEDS.

Nav-aid lighting helps pilots identify the airport, the runway, and the appropriate flight path.

Over 120,000 linear feet of new wire and underground housing will also be installed.

Chanse Watson, Stennis International Airport director, says, “The new lights are more energy efficient and will require less maintenance than the existing system. The new wiring configuration will also provide system redundancy in case any given circuit loses power.”
