New license plate option available to Mississippi drivers
Mississippi is now joining three other states in getting a blackout plate option, half the plate cost going towards the State Law Enforcement and Firefighter Death Benefits Trust Fund.
House Bill 446, which officially created the license plate, was passed by both chambers in Mississippi and was signed by Governor Tate Reeves.
Starting July, a plate with a black background will be available for purchase. The plate will cost $53. At this time, there are no motorcycle options and will only be available for cars and light duty pickups.
A number of other plates for other organizations will be released as well.
